Return
to Royal Hotel Overview
Wherever practical or possible, the Royal Hotel is committed to making all facilities available to all people, regardless of permanent or temporary impairment or disability, both for the convenience of our guests and for compliance with current legislation.
The hotel was constructed around 1851, with further changes in the mid-20th century, on a site which, although level at the front, is cut into ground which rises to a height level with the first floor at the rear. The nature of the site and the design of the building, with several changes of level, present some difficulties for disabled access, which we endeavour to work around.
For guests with impaired mobility, our HS-1 cafe bar has level access, directly from the street, with on-street parking normally available. Disabled toilet and baby changing facilities, reception, lounge bar and the Boatshed Restaurant are all at a slightly higher level, which may be accessed via a wheelchair ramp from HS-1. Assistance can be provided for a further low step into the Boatshed Restaurant.
As far as guest bedroom usage of the Royal Hotel is concerned, there is direct level access to first floor bedrooms from the hotel car park at the rear of the building, where space can be reserved for disabled vehicle users, if required. The building does not have a passenger lift, though further consideration of this facility will be made when the next refurbishment of the hotel is scheduled. If a guest specifically wishes to occupy one of our bedrooms (which, because of their views, may have a particular appeal to the mobility impaired) but feels unable to access the restaurant for breakfast, we are happy to provide room service breakfast, or have breakfast served at our sister hotel, the Cabarfeidh, less than a mile away.
At the present time, we do not have first floor bedrooms that are specifically designed for wheelchair access, but a number of rooms are accessible to wheelchair users, dependent upon their level of disability.
Guide dogs and hearing dogs are welcome in their owners' accommodation and all public areas. Braille signage and hearing loops are not yet provided.
Facilities available will be continuously reviewed and new facilites introduced where necessary and possible.
We are commited
to giving people with impairments or disabilities equal access to
websites and online
content. This site has been designed with accessiblity in mind and we
believe it will comply with equal access requirements. For
example, all text may be adjusted in size, all relevant images and
links are provided with alternative descriptions and the coding has
been checked for conformance to appropriate standards.
As the BBC have done such an excellent job of providing guidance for
users who wish to adjust the way a site is displayed to them, probably
much better than we could do, this
link which will open their accessibility guide (into a new window)
is provided to assist you.
