Cafe Bar in Stornoway | HS-1 at the Royal Hotel
HS-1 is the cafe bar in Stornoway that’s set the style for casual meeting and dining.
Most towns have a favourite meeting place where you can take a break, catch up with friends, enjoy a meal or light bite and have a drink in pleasant surroundings.
That’s the appeal of HS-1 Cafe Bar. It’s welcoming and cheerful, bringing a cosmopolitan air to the town and there are always daily specials to choose from, all at great value prices. It was the first contemporary cafe bar in Stornoway, soon after the millennium and it’s still bright and busy, following refurbishment in 2012 – it’s a place which is suitable for everyone, open every day from 12 noon until late.
We’re popular with a variety of customers of all ages, local residents and visitors alike. Some enjoy a morning coffee and a cake, others a light bite for lunch, while in the evening HS-1 comes alive with music and laughter for those who come to enjoy an informal dinner.
HS-1 is also open from 12 noon on Sundays, so you can pop in after a walk around the Castle Grounds – our Sunday Special lunch is a great way to have a relaxing day.
Lots of menu choice
A stylish, modern, international menu includes a good range of steaks, pasta, wraps, salads, authentic curries and an amazing burger, prepared right here in Stornoway. HS-1 is served by the same kitchen as the Royal’s renowned Boatshed Restaurant, so your chosen dishes are prepared to high standards by a team of professional chefs.
Taking the freshest available local produce, our chefs create a range of dishes that pay tribute to the cuisines of several countries – so, as well as traditional Scottish flavours, you can enjoy tastes with influences of Australia, China, Nepal, India, the West Indies, the USA and Europe.
We’re well known for serving fresh fish and seafood from the ocean that’s almost at our doorstep, plus meats grown on local estates and farms – the daily specials board reflects the seasons and fishermen’s catches.
The lunch menu is available from midday to 4pm and features a good range of light meals, while the dinner menu (served from 4pm to 9pm) has a wider range of main courses.
Both menus include plenty of salad choices and vegetarian options, too – there really is something for everyone and some surprises on the specials board
The family friendly cafe bar in Stornoway
HS-1 is family friendly – especially popular during the day with parents of young children, it’s an ideal place to meet with other parents and relax a little. During lunch and dinner service periods, you can order from a special menu for the little ones, on which they can colour in the drawings to keep themselves amused. (No need to bring crayons – we have them, too.)
